My 30th Birthday

Manteo!!!

This was our first trip out to the Coast of North Carolina since May 2008.
So for my birthday, Dustin planned for a weekend trip for both of us in Manteo.

We stayed at a really cool bed and breakfast place called 'White Doe Inn', in the Turret BedChamber room. It was very nice, and since it's my birthday, my loving husband requested a bouquet of roses for me!

Since it's a Halloween weekend, there was also this big talking pumpkin right outside the Inn. It was pretty fascinating to see kids come at night for their Trick or Treat session, and tried to talk to the pumpkin. We had a good laugh out of it.

Beside the beach, we went to visit some historical site, like the Wright Brother's Museum, and also the Light House. The drive beside the beach was spectacular, the sand dune by the side of the road was about 8 - 10 ft high, and we can't see the beach unless we climbed up the sand dunes...... I've never seen anything like that.

I had anawesome weekend and wonderful birthday... :)

First Baby Kick

Oct 22nd, 2008
Dear Baby,
As of today, you will be approximately 18 weeks and 6 days.
You have been growing pretty well in my tummy, even though I have not seen you since August. During our last doctor's visit, we only get to listen to your heartbeat.
Beside my belly growing bigger, I felt your gentle kick for the first time on 10/20 midnight. You kicked twice! I have read articles about feeling baby's kick for the first time, but it's difficult to comprehend until you really feelt it....
The feeling was undescribable. I have a big smile on my face, as your dad was already fast asleep. I did not feel you after that until today 10/22, while I was sitting in front of my work pc typing away..... I felt you kicking again.......
It was an awesome experience, and I am sure there are more kicking to come.
Till we see you next

Mating SnaiLs....

Oct 18th, 2008

Ever seen Snails Mate?
We have an aquarium that can hold 75 gallons of water.

Now there are about total of 10 gold fishes. They are of 5 different types.
Since I don't have a very good camera, it's really difficult for me to take pictures of them.
But they have been growing really well....
3 of them have names : Goldilocks; MiniMe; FattyFattyBomBom
We are still thinking names for the other 7....

Besides the fishes, we also have 4 snails and 4 different types of plants ( Not plastic ones ) in the fish tank. 2 golden snails, and 2 blue snails.
The golden snails have been growing pretty fast, and they love being in the aqaurium.
They actually don't move as slow as we thought they do, sometimes you can see them speed across the tank. Dustin likes to say they are 'Hauling Asses'..... :)
Here's one of the pics where the snail chill on the plant:

Last weekend, we found one of the golden snail outside of the tank!!!! We thought he / she was trying to commit suicide!!! Wondering what could have happened if we did not find it outside of the tank....

Two days later, as we were about to head out for work, we found one of the golden snails laying eggs!!! I did not grab my camera in time to take a picture of it, and the snail dropped off from the eggs after that.... While the snail dropped into the water, some of the eggs dropped as well, and were being eaten by the always hungry gold fish....
Here's some pictures of the eggs of the snail I took from the first day:

Here's how the eggs look like after about a week. We are still wondering what will happen after this....

This morning while I was watching the fish swimming around, I saw the snails mating again... here's some cool pictures :

Yea... They are getting it on.... haha.. :)

DiNNeR!

Oct 11th, 2008

I was craving for some Mummy Koh's cooking.
So I decided to try out the 'Asam Prawn' she used to cook.
Mummy said it's pretty easy, just season the Prawn with Tamarind ( Asam Gao ), add a little bit of soy sauce or salt if I want.

I seasoned the prawns for about 5 hours, with just the Tamarind.
Thinking the dish might not come out the way it should, I also had two other dishes planned : Sambal prawn with long bean and okra, also bitter gourd soup.

As I fried the prawns and the sambal prawns, I had my husband helped me with the soup....
Tomatoes, Ginger, Meat, Garlic and Bitter Gourd :

The Asam Prawn did not turn out very good. Not very tasty as I told mum after dinner. She said maybe the Tamarind version I used is not salty enough.... I should give it a try another time..

Here's some pictures :)

Yummy!

Dustin loves the Sambal Prawn and Soup, but said the Asam Prawn is so sooooo....
Will need to give it a second try when I am in the mood :)

North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

Oct 5th, 2008
After two consecutive weekends of watching football, I filed a compliant...
So the man did some research and decided that we should go to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences that is in Raleigh.
Raleigh is about 40 miles away from where we lived.
So we head out after we had our pancake breakfast.

The downtown seems pretty quiet during the weekend, we drove around the town to try to find a place to eat. We had a quick bite, it was not very satifying.
We spent about 4 hours storlling in the museum. It's a pretty cool place.
There are a total of 4 levels, and a special exhibition about 'Dead Sea Scroll' was on at that time.
We did not watch that as it cost about USD 25 per person.
The rest of the exhibition kept us amused.....

In front of the museum

Bones and Skull of Dinasour
Green Snake chilling in the aquarium

HorseShoe Crab, it moves really fast!!!

Owen's Pancake!

Oct 5th, 2008
It's a sunny Sunday morning.....
Dustin rolled over and asked what would I like for breakfast.

I said..... Tosai, or Bak Kut Teh or Heh Mee, pick one. :)
He smiled and said, why don't I make Pancake.
Off he went to the store, getting all the ingredients he needs....

He also bought some really sweet strawberries and some bananas to go with the pancake!
Here's the lovely pancake made by my loving husband..... :)
It tasted pretty good...

Our First Baby Gift!

Yes! We received our first baby gift! It's a gift from my SIL Mary.
It's a simple green baby clothe with 'genius in the making' embroided on it.
My husband made a snide comment, ' I think we should make more genius? What do you think?' I gave him a smile :)

Nee Nooi's Hand & Feet Wrapping Adventure!

Story of this blog is courtesy of Mummy Koh...

Since young, if we have stomach problem, I would hear mummy or ah yi saying... Ah yah.... must be a lot of 'wind' in the body. They would help rub some special oil on my tummy, and after a while, I will hear myself being a butt trumpet.....** hehe **

Ginger is known to help getting rid of 'Wind' in the body. For most of our home cook food, ginger is always one of the ingredients. No matter if it's soup, pork, chicken or vege. And we have learned to eat lots of ginger.

So, Ms. Nee Nooi's have been having some swell on her feet and ankle for quite sometimes. It normally doesn't bother her too much, until lately she felt pain even by just going for a walk around the park. Our neighbour who lives opposite of our parents house has recommended this famous Chinese Sensei, who has known to help cure a lot of swelling of the body that western medicine cannot cure.

Nee Nooi decided to give it a try.... The chinese sensei's office is in KL, about 30km from where we live. And they have been told to get there as early as 7am just to wait in line. True enough! When NeeNooi and mummy got there in the morning at 7am, there were about 10 people waiting in line! Mum was really surprised! As mummy chatted with the people in line, she found out that most of them had either swelling feet or mild stroke before.

The famouns chinese sensei is about 60 yrs old, and he took time to see each patient, checking patients' pulse and telling patients' what is wrong with their body just like all other chinese sensei. The cost of seeing the doctor is only RM5.00.

The chinese sensei explained to NeeNooi and my mum that most swelling and stroke are caused by wind in our body. In order to get rid of the wind that is trapped, one has to go through the ginger treatment. The mediciation includes preparation of 9kg of ginger, mixed with some herbs and bai jiu(Chinese white wine). Both hands and feet will be wrapped using the mixed herbs and ginger for the next 24 hrs. All the toxic wind will then be clear from one's body and you will feel much better!

Cost of it?? RM300.00!!! And be without being able to move freely for 24 hours..

Since there have been so many living proof, NeeNooi decided to give it a try! Besides having a massage on the same day by the chinese doctor which she had to wait till 4pm, they had to come back the next morning, to have the wrapping done!

So, NeeNooi and mummy arrived at the Chinese Sensei office the next day at about 7am! Early early! And the wrapping process started around 9am.... and lasted for 24 hours ....
here are some pictures...

NeeNooi's Hand and Feet are being wrapped..........

Story doesn't end here. Never have I thought, how uncomfortable would NeeNooi feel? Turned out to be, that's the longest 24 hours that she has ever been through!

Just try imaginging your hands and feet being wrapped like that, how do you eat? go to the restroom? Sleep!!! Poor NeeNooi, can't even sleep in her own bed. Luckily mummy was there to help her with everything. Feeding her, helping her with going to the restroom... that's what sister are for! :) hehe.

The unwrapping process....

After 24 hours, mummy helped NeeNooi to unwrapped, eewwww... look at the color

NeeNooi said she felt much better after the wrapping process, and that her feet doesn't swell anymore!

I asked NeeNooi what was the first thing that she did after she was unwrapped? She said..... take a dump!!! haha...
